Abstract

proportions of AlA and ATA patients showed post-ESS improvement on FEV1, need for OCSs, and ER visits for asthma exacerbations. Improvement was sustained over 6 and 12 months of postoperative follow-up for both groups of patients.
Also. ESS after maximal medical management results in beneficial effect on the sinonasal outcome parameters in both AlA and AT A patients with NP. The postoperative Lund-Mackay scores were statistically lower, and the sinonasal symptoms were also statistically better. When the data are compared between the AlA and AT A subsets, the positive effect in the AlA patients was significantly less pronounced for CT score improvement. When the data were compared between the asthmatic and non-asthmatic subsets, the positive effect in the asthmatic population was less pronounced espeCIally tor the patients’ symptoms improvement.
Our knowledge of AS A-intolerance has advanced tremendously since the early days when polypectomy was believed to exacerbate, and even cause, asthma attacks in ASA triad patients. Surgical management has progressed from not operating to studies demonstrating benefits of surgical management. This study runs in the same way with this concepts demonstrating that asthma and sinonasal outcomes in asthmatic patients can be improved significantly after ESS.
Our study is larger than all previously published studies that look at the effect of ESS in asthmatic patients having CRS. Although this study include a short-term follow-up duration of approximately I years, however, we believe that its fmdings could be used to modify the indications of ESS for asthmatic patients and help to anticipate the results. Moreover, patients may be better informed of the results to be expected. this study also with its large patient population, well defmed objective and subjective outcome measures and strict criteria included for patients selection would help to clarify the true value of ESS for this difficult to treat patients.
