Abstract This study included 53 patients (30 male and 23 female), Who presented with rolitary renal pelvic stone and all of them underwent extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) as a treatment modality for their stones. Age of our ~atients ranged from 17 to 61years and the mean age was 38.4 ± 14.2 According to the body mass index of the patients, BMI ranged from 21.4 to J5 with a mean of 26.4 ± 4.03 , 11 patients were obese and had BMI 2: 30, while 42 patients had a BMI ~ 30 These patients were evaluated by history taking, physical examination, laboratory investigations and radiological studies including non-contrast helical computed tomography (NCCT) to ~etermine the Hounsfield units (HU) and HU density of the stone All plain x- ray films pre SWL were reviewed in a blinded maneuver by the same examiner and comparing them with SWL success rate to detennine the radiological criteria for better patient ~election for SWL. We determined the following radiological characteristics which helped us to predict the fragility of the stone which is the key factor for success of SWL. |
