Abstract

Thc present study included 60 patients with rheumatoid arthritis according to \RA Re\’ised criteria (1987), There were 12 male (20%) and 48 female (80°11)) ranging in age from 20-65 year 81ld a mean ± SD or 40AS± 11.69 year. 1\11 patients were subjected to history taking and thorough cljnic81 examin8tion. routinc investigation Cor confirming the diagnosis included laboratory investigation (Frylhrocyle Sediment8tion rate, Ig _ M rheum8toid ractor). ,lIld mdiologic,d inmtigation ( plain x-ray posteroanterior view for both hands and \,vrists).
Thc radiological joint damage assessed by modified Sharp Score (19R5). 8nd cl’aluatiOly runclion disability W8S by I lealth Assessment Questionnaire (lIAQ).
I hc erreel or agc. sex. disease duration 8nd drugs on the radiologic81 joint dam8ge nnd fUllction disability and thc correlation betvvccn both variables was determined.
Thcre was positive significant correlation between functional dis8bility and the radiological joint involvement assessed by modified Sharp Score. The correlation betwcen the duration or rheumatoid arthritis in years and both functional disability and the radiological joint involvement was positive.
The age of patients was positively correlated with both variables. The functional disability was positively correlated with lCmale sex. While there was no signi licant Corrclation between radiological joint damage and sex.
The effect of drug use (methotrexate, chloroquine and oral corticosteroid) was not correlated with Cunctional disability while methotrexate, chloroquine were associated with less racliologicaljoint damage.
