Abstract

T
he liver is one of the most important organs in the humans body. That is due to the liver do the process of detoxification of many toxins in the body also it has important role in forming bile and its role in metabolism of human body.
There is fact that the liver has the ability to regenerate itself if injured that is due to the hepatocytes and stem cells inside liver has the ability to regenerate themselves.
The liver cirrhosis is the massive fibrosis of the liver tissue with damage of liver cells. Leading to alteration in liver tissue in this cases of late cirrhosis liver transplantation is the only curable treatment for the this patient but this is faced by many problems as leakage of donners, high cost, rejection to the transplanted liver and problems that faced operation of transplantation itself.
All this problems makes the waiting list of liver transplantation is very high for example in Iran at least about 1000 patient in need to liver transplantation while only about 100 is donned per year. So many patient is died before get any chance for treatment. So we in need to another therapies for this disease.
In the past decades of time due to a vilability of high technology and scientific trials immerge the cellular therapy as an ulternative therapy to orthotopic liver transplantation as safe and effective.
And due to the progression and development of cell biology technique, the isolation of stem cells from bone marrow and others sources this stem cells has the ability to differentiate to functional hepatocytes. It transplanted to liver. In this literature we focused on the feasibility of stem cells especially bone marrow cells to differentiate to functional hepatocytes.
Application of stem cells for treatment of liver diseases therapies seems to be a promising approach for the treatment of liver disease, several issues need to be made to fulfill this promise.
