Abstract

This work is concerned with an investigation into the vibration and noise responses and their relationships with the workpiece surface quality in dry milling process. It is based on the concept of the creation of the meesurements while the actual milling cutting process is in progress. The data obtaiined are discussed from the point of view of providing some insight on the self - excited vibration and associated noise generation for the milling cutting process, and possibly some recommendations which might be applicable to the solution of the vibration and noise problems associated with the cutting process in order to obtain a good quality of the workpiece surface roughness. Based on this concept a complete appraisal is made for the cutting process and the reasons for its partiicular vibro - acoustic responses are exposed.
A historical review of published work has been introduced Md displayed the need for extra work on studying such probleems. This is followed by the description of the instrumentation system and test procedure as used in this work.
The experimental results obtained have been introduced and discussed in the frequency range up to 10 kHz, and recommendaations for an extended programme for the work on such cuttine process are presented.
