Rationalization of irrigation water use is an important field in the agricultural extension program which aimes to improve the Knowledges, Skills, addition to the changes in Attituds of farmers and they are related to Rationalization of irrigation water use. Rationalization of irrigation water use needs a hard afforts to chonge of farmers behaviours, Both the extension system subjected to the ministry of agriculturatve and ministry of water resources are responsible for all afforts concerning Rationalization of irrigation water use, more over, the afforts which submitted by the media and research centers. As agricultural extension one of the” most important non - Formal educational systems covering the countryside that play a distinguished role in Rationalization of irrigation water use , in its way to attain desired changes in rural peoples knowledge, skills and attitudes. agricultural extension’s role is no more limited to increasing crop yielding, but exceeds that to many other fields including. The developing maintaining and rational use of natural resoureces . Among the activities included in this last field, Rationalization of irrigation water use. No doubt, the activity of the extiension eystemare depending on situation of mankind behaviours including Knowleges, Skills and Attituds done to know the training needs and extension needs for all related from workers who are dealing with water resources in the rural region . Because the acadimic preperation program for major agricultural extension is not strong an one side and stoping their -----~~ ””--- --- -- - --- from other eide, these fore the extension trainings is a vital component in the acadimic preperation program to be completed. moreover, refreshment and polish of ideas which are advanced in agriculture science for agricultural extension. To training achieve the needed aims, they will plan well. the plan must have a proper secintific basices . they training needs for agricultural extension are the first because it is vital in which depending upon the proper plan for any training program which aimes to increase the knowleges, skills and attitud levels. In the light of the scaricity of studies in training needs for agricultural extension agents in the field of Rationalization of irrigation water use ,this study was conducted to indentify the training needs to agricultural extension. Hence, this study aimed maninly to determine the Traaining needs for agricultural extension agents in the field of Irrigation water Rationalization Techniques in Kafr EL - sheikh governorate in areas, this aim was achieved through: 1 - Identify some characteristics of respondents. 2 - Identify the need degrees Knowledge in relation to Water use Techniques. the agricultural extension For the rationalization of Irrigation 3 - Identify the attitude degree the agricultural extension in relation to the rationalization of Irrigation water use techniqnse . 4 - Define the relationship between the need degree the agricultural extension for knowledge in relation to the rationalization of Irrigation water use techniquse and some personal, social and communicational variables. 5 - Define the relation ship between the attitude degree the agricultur al extension in relation to the rotionalization of Irrigation water use techniq use and some personal, social and communicational variables. -------- - ---- ---------------y ’-- 6 - Determine contribution ratio of the variables significantly correlated with the need degree the agricultural extension for knowledge in relation to the rationalization of Irrigation water use techniquse in explaining the tatal variance. 7 - Determine contribution ratio of the variables significantly correlated with the attitud degree the agricultural extension in relation to the rationaltion of Irrigation water use techniques in explaining the total variance. The study covered all districts of Kafr EI - Sheikh Governorate ( I - e., ) Kafr EI - Sheikh , Desouq , Kallin , Fawai . Metobes , Seedi-Salem, Biella, AI-Hamoui, AI-Reiad and Balteem ) . Arandom somple vepresenting 35 °/0 of the total agricultural extension agents in each district amounting to 250 . Data were collected during February and March 1999 by interviewing respondents using a pre - Tested questionnaire. Parsons , simple correlation coefficient, step wise, percentages and means were used to analyze data statistically. The main results of the study revealed that: 1 - General characteristies of extension agents : a - Age : About 13.6 °/0 of the agents are under 39 years old, 48 °/0 of them between 39 - 46 years old and 20.4 0/0 are over 46 years old. b - Degree of Rurality : Around 27.2 Ok of the agents have low degree of rurality, 13.6 °/0 have middle level, and 59.2 0;/0 have high level. c - Degree of Agricultural experience : About 28.4 Ok of the agents have low degree of agricultural experience, 23.2 0;/0 have middle level and 48.4 °/0 have high level. d - Degree of Education : About 540 /0 of the agents have low degree of education, 12 0/0 have middle level and 34 0;/0 have high level. e _ Degree of employment experience: Around 47.2 % of the agents have low degree of employment experience, 42.8 % have middle level and 10 % have high level. f _ Degree of use extension activities : About 36.8 % of the agents have low degree of use extension activities, 22 0/0 have middle level and 41.2 % have high level. g _ Degree of Exposure to in formation sources : Around 31.6 % of the agents have low degree of Exposure to in formation sources , 39.2 % have middle level and 29.2 0/0 have high level. h _ Degree of Training: About 28.8 % of the agents have low degree of training ,39.6 % have middle level and 31.6 % have high level . I _ Degree of Usefulness from training : Around 41.2 % of the agents have low degree of Usefulness from training, 24 % have middle level and 34.8 % have high level. J Degree of Attitude towards training: About 18.8 o of the agents have low Degree of Attitude towards training , 39.2 % have middle level and 42 o have high level. k _ Degree of Achievement motivation : Around 22.4 % of the agents have low Degree of Achievement motivation , 37.2 % have middle level and 40.4 % have high level. I _Degree of Jop satisfaction: About 30 % of the agents have low degree of Jop satisfaction, 52.8 % have middle level and 17.2 % have high level. m _ Degree of Innovativeness : Around 27.2 % of the agents have low Degree of lnnovativeness, 48.8 % have middle level and 24 % have high livel . 2 _ Need degree the agricultural extension For Knowledge in relation to the rationalization of Irrigation Water use Techniques were either moderate or relativily high. ~~ ._---_ ..~---------- o 3 _ Agricultural extension Attitude were farourable and neutral . 4 _ Need degree the agricultural extension for knowledge in relation to the rationalization of Irrigation water use techniques correlated negatively and significantly an 0.01 with each degree of employment experience ,degree of Agricultural experience, degree of use extension activities , degree of job satisfaction, degree of exposure to in formation sources, degree of training, degree of achievement motivation, degree of education, degree of innovativeness . the nine variables contributed by 22.86 % , 15.62 % ,10.76 o , 7.83 % ,5.44 % ,5.05 % ,4.42 % , 1.73 % , and 0.65 % respectively totaling 73.31 ?% in explaining the variance in the knowledge degree. 5 - Agricultural extension attitude in relation to the rationalization of Irrigation water use techniques correlated positivily and significanlty on 0.01 with each of degree of exposure to information sources , degree of jop satisfaction , degree of training , degree of use exten sion activities, degree of agricultural experience , degree of achievement motivation, degree of education , degree of innovativeness and degree of jop satisfaction, and correlated positivily and significantly on 0.5 with degree of attiludes to words training. the ten var.iables.. contributed by 18.57 % ,14.3 % , 10.59 % , 7.73 % , 4.18 % , 2.44 % , 1.44 % , 0.88 % , 0.77 % and 1.68 % respectively totaling 62.58 % in explaining the variance in. t,he attitude degree. ------ -------------- - --- --- --- |
