Abstract

There are several lines of evidence for a relationship between sedentary behavior and health, including epidemiological investigations of sedentary behavior and mortality or risk of chronic disease. There is now convincing evidence from controlled clinical trials that lifestyle modification can prevent or delay the development of many diseases in high risk individuals as diabetes, hypertension, coronary artery diseases, obesity , or osteoporosis.
The aim of the study is to assess the effect of lifestyle modification on the health status of athletes in different Sporting clubs in Kuwait. It showed that players performing the life style modifications, mainly practicing exercise programs club, smoking cessation, and weight reduction has great improvement in many of their health parameters.
Data were collected from players: by a specially designed interview format (Appendix1) about:
 Personal and Socio-demographic characteristics: age in years, sex, nationality, level of education, marital status and occupation.
 History of current medical disorders, medication and family history of diseases.
 and sedentary lifestyle practices (watching television and using the computer)
 Life style practices for
a) Exercise practicing: Type of exercise, duration of practicing, duration per session and frequency per week.
b) Eating habits: number of meals, soft drinks, eating outside home and eating between meals.
c) Smoking history:

 Knowledge and attitudes towards the benefits of exercise practicing, smoking cessation and reaching ideal weight.
