Abstract Aim: The current study aimed at mapping the biomedical research production from the Eastern Mediterranean region in years 2000, 2005 and 2007 Methodology: It is a quantitative bibliometric study of the biomedical publications from the Eastern Mediterranean Region based on the PubMed and IMEMR databases in the assigned years of the study. Results: In the assigned years of the study, the total number of biomedical publications from the region was 23433 publications. The most publishing countries were: Iran, Egypt, and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Clinical specialties and public health were the leading areas of research in the region. Conclusion: The biomedical research production from the Eastern Mediterranean Region have increased, however, still unsatisfactory. The low biomedical research output from the region compared to the developed countries reflects the economic, social and political situations in the region Recommendations: Goal-oriented and need-based programmes should be organized at the national and institutional level. where, the needs should be defined, justified and approached by local scientists who are research-oriented and capable of establishing proper dialogue with policy makers and funding bodies.
