Abstract

Salmonella is one of the most important pathogenic bacteria in the world that can infect chickens causing serious illness in human through consumption of contaminated food products. This work was done to study the incidence of salmonella in poultry in Dakahlia Governorate in consideration to antibiotic residue in broiler chicken. Out of (300 samples) collected from internal organs including liver (85) , caecum (118) , spleen (42) and heart (55)of chickens, thirty two were positive to salmonella, the serotyping of the isolated salmonellae was Salmonella Labadi (4 isolates 12.5% ), Salmonella Enteritidis (6 isolates 18.75%), Salmonella Typhimurium (18 isolates 56.25%) and Salmonella Kentucky (4 isolate 12.5%). Sensitivity test was made and all salmonellae were sensitive to gentamicin and ciprofloxacin. S. labadi was multiresistant to most used antibiotics such as erythromycin but sensitive to other used antibiotics. S. kentucky was resistant to enrofloxacin, erythromycin, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, chloramphenicol and neomycin but sensitive to gentamycin, ciprofloxacin, amoxicillin, ampicillin and doxycyclin hydrochloride). Salmonella Typhimurium was resistant to (enrofloxacin, erythromycin, chloramphenicol, and amoxicillin) but sensitive to (gentamycin, sulphamethoxazone, ciprofloxacin, neomycin, ampicillin, doxycyclin hydrochloride. Salmonella Enteritidis was sensitive to all used antibiotics except ampicillin and doxycyclin hydrochloride.
