Abstract

The present study was planned to find the effect of different
feeding habit on the structure of tongue, small intestine, pituitary gland
and thyroid gland of adult, prenatal and postnatal of both Rousettus
aegyptiacus and Taphozous nudiventris using histological,
histochemical techniques and ultrastructural examination.
Many changes in the organs under study including:
Tongue of adult R. aegyptiacus is covered with giant, horny
and small elongated filiform papillae, but in T. nudiventris tongue apex
is covered with small, hairy and horny filiform ones. In both species,
few number of fungiform papillae are scattered among the filiform
papillae. In posterior part of the tongue, circumvallte papillae and taste
buds were observed. Also, two types of glands: mucous and serous
were found.
