Abstract
Chronic kidney disease is a global public health problem with a rising prevalence. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is very common in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and is by far the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in dialysis patients
The present study included 45 CRF patients on haemodialysis and 30 apparently healthy controls. History taking clinical examination and laboratory testing were done.
BW and BMI were significantly lower in haemodialysis patients with higher SBP compared to control group.
JVP is one useful sign, but unfortunately has been neglected by dialysis nurses and physician. Elevation of the jugular venous pressure during or at the end of haemodialysis may indicate a need for target weight adjustment. The current study found that positive relationship between CVP and inferior vena cava diameter and IVCI. IVCI was selected to be an independent predictor for CVP and could be used as a simple and non invasive bed side test for evaluation of dry weight of CRF patients on chronic haemodialysis.
We conclude that, the tei index is simple and noninvasive method for assessment of the global function of the left ventricle. PTH had a significant correlation with cardiovascular morbidity in haemodialysis patients. IVCI was simple non invasive bed side test for assessment of dry weight in haemodialysis patients.
We recommend the use of tissue Doppler as a routine investigation for assessment of left ventricular function in haemodialysis patients. Treatment of hyperparathyroidism to prevent its deleterious effect on left ventricular functions, the use of IVCI for assessment of dry weight in haemodialysis patients and we recommend to perform this study on larger scale study
