Abstract

This thesis included a comprehensive review of the literature
regarding the topic of superficial bladder cancer. It pointed out to the
incidence of this tumor both in the world and in Egypt.
The review included also an update about the etiology and the risk
factors for this disease. The recent guidelines in diagnosis and management
were emphasized.
The review was followed by a study conducted on 100 randomlyselected
patients with superficial bladder cancer at NCI – Cairo University.
Those patients’ records were retrieved and reviewed as regards the
history and investigation offered to them. Close monitoring of the
management of such patients was also done.
Analysis of the obtained data was done with special emphasis on the
frequency of tumor recurrence and progression. Discussion of the analyzed data was done with comparison to the
same date obtained from the world literature.
The discussion of the data came up with conclusions which can
monitor clearly the outcome and the efficiency of the management of those
patients at NCI.
The conclusions can also lead to updating of the guidelines of
management of superficial bladder cancer, with adoption of new protocols of
management and follow-up aiming at improving the survival and the cure
rates.
