Abstract

This study was conducted at the Poultry Unit belonging to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Wealth Development, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Mansoura University during the period extended from February 2011 to August 2011 for the 1st experiment and from September 2011 to March 2012 for the 2nd experiment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of heat stress and stocking density on some productive, reproductive and immunological traits in Japanese quail. This study was divided into two basic experiments: Experiment I (Heat stress): This experiment was designed to determine the effect of heat stress on some productive, reproductive and immunological traits in Japanese quails. The experimental flock composed of 300 birds of Japanese quail aged 14 days. Birds were randomly divided into five equal groups, 60 birds each. Each group was subdivided into three replicates, 20 birds each, which divided according to the exposed temperature into the first group (control group) were kept under (18-24ºc), the second group was exposed to high temperature of 35ºc for 4 hours daily, the third group was heat treated as the second group but the duration increased to 6 hours, the forth group was exposed to high temperature of 40ºc for 4 hours daily and the fifth group was heat treated as the forth group but the duration increased to 6 hours daily. Experiment II (stocking density): This experiment was designed to study the effect of stocking density on some productive, reproductive and immunological traits in Japanese quails. 200 birds of Japanese quails aged 14 days were used in this experiment.
