Abstract

The people of the world have always danced. Dancing is not only the most universal of the arts, but the mother of all arts,”1 In addition to this d.cing is the oldest art; for and with tt rhythm was created, Soon after the child learns to. walk, he begins to give expression to his simple. emotions by swinging his body and beating his feet. The dance has its origin in man’s first reaction to his environment. Primitive man had nothing but tear to direct his actions and his impulse was to propitiate the spirits that threatened him. Primitive man had no . other way to express himself except by movement, Through the years the dance became the natural and primitive means of self- expression, It also reflected and interpreted the culture, for primitive man had no other means of making himself understood except by his body movements. Dance for him was the only medium through which he could express his feelings; it helpted to satisfy his needs and release the tensions of his body.
