Abstract

The present work aims at investigation of ecological features of the some geophytic species in Sharkia province through surveying and distribution of the plant life, description of the life – span, the life – form spectra and floristic analysis of the plant life showing 218 species in Sarkia province, 111annuals, 105 prennial and 2 biennials as well as the investigation of soil variables, vegetation analysis in 150 sampled stands through two seasons (winter-spring and summer–autumn) for all plant life in the study area and soil-vegetation relationships to determine the vegetational structure and factor or factors controlling the distribution and richness of vegetation by using multivariate techniques of classification(DCA) and ordination(CCA. Also in this study, three geophytic species are selected to carry out some ecological and physiological studies. These species are Cyperus alopecuriodes, Elymus farctus and Polygonum equisetiforme. These species are selected due to their abundance in the study area and their economic potentialities. Through analysis of soil samples to determine the soil variables affecting the growth of these selected species and description of plant communities associated with these species by using multivariate techniques of classification (DCA) and ordination (CCA. Cyperus alopecuriodes is considered an abundant species in all site of the study area. If this site disrupted due to any reason such as human impacts this species will be extinct. An ecological study of (cyperus alopecuriodese) naturally growing in the habitat of sharkia province to throw light on, population parameters (the main axis height and lengh, leaves characters, number of buds and spikes, and sample size) of the species including analysis of water supporting the plant growth in two sites Ismaili irrigation canal and Faqose swamp. The main aim of this study is conservation and utilization of some wild plants, which has promising economic values, from wild state to non-traditional agricultural plants after detecting their ecological and economic importance in many fields as follows: medicinal values, source of human food and non-traditional forage for animals.
