Abstract Water scarcity crisis pushes all world countries, especially Egypt, to reduce the water losses, develop the water sources and exploit their shares well (55.5BCM per year). The main objectives of this research are reducing the discharge water losses from South Kantara Canal, North Sinai toward the nearby and parallel drains, controlling the flow net path and preventing the failures of the drain side slopes. To achieve this, soil properties, stratification of soil and coefficient of permeability for each layer were determined by digging 5 boreholes in situ and carried out all required testing soil in the laboratory. Some suggested solutions were submitted to achieve our aims such as changing the inclination angle of drain side slopes, using single clay core and using double clay core between the canal and drain. The problem and its suggested solutions were simulated by using GEO-SLOPE Program (Finite Element Analysis). The output results were analyzed4 conclusions and recommendations were presented. |
