Abstract A mathematical model describing the transient performance of 3-phase induction motor is presented. The numerical solution of this model on a digital computer needs less computational reqirements than the conventional model used in the previous studees. Furthermor, the influence of terminal capacitors on the transient behaviour of an induction motor is demonstrated. Previous investigations, so g for, assumed infinite capacity supply feeding the motor under all loading conditions. Thus, terminal voltage was assumed conrtant throughout the transient period. However, in this thesis, weak supply is also investigated. Besides, a theoretical analysis is established for calculating the transient current, speed, and developed torque of the induction motor having terminal capacitors and connected to a weak supply. The thesis presents also a mathematical model describing the transient behaviour of a group of parallel connected induction motors, either when fed from a stiff supply, or when the supply is weak and machine behaviour is interactive. A digital computer solution of this model provides a numerical prediction of the transient performance of such operation. The study is extended to includes the effects of terminal capacitors on such transient performance with common stiff and weak supply. |
