Abstract

Recently, switched capaciter (SC)filters became an effective mean for realizing fully integrated filters. SCfilters are composed of switches, capacitors, and operational amplifiers, they are all integrated on a single chip using metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) technology.Currently, SC filters provide an excellent alternative for using thin - film hybride filter. This is because SCfilters are less expensive to manufacture and require no post prodction triming of elements. Another advantage is that SC filters may be fabricated on the same chip as MOS digital circuirty resulting in increased flexibility. Also, MOS teqnology offers high quality capacitors, low leakage charge storage, offset-free switches, and conservation charge sensing (1).
In thios thesis we study SCfilter design, where new design blocks are introduced, and a new method for the design of SC filters, derived from analog passive filters is developed.
Switched capacitor filters can be described in general as filters in which the resistors are eliminated and replaced by capacitors and group of MOS switches (85).Typically the filter design starts with specicifications in the frequency domain, where we have two possible paths,.
The first path concerns the development of contonuous filter realization by simulating the resistance of the active filter or the reactance of the passive filter using switched capacitor models (23), whererlow sensitivity is the main advantage of the method (71,Doubly terminated LCladder realization was simulated using many method (37), (47), exact simulation (42). Finally, the method introduced in this thesid whichmuses the linear transformation active (LTA)Synthesis (40)
The second path does not develop a continuous realization . Instead o the continuous domain specifications (R, L, C cutoff frequency..etc) are translated to the z-domain.This translation can be accomplished by variouw transformation between the S-domain and the Z-domain or may be developed by techniques that synthesize an impdance transfer function h(z_) to meet a given frequency specification. Once h(z) has been determined, then it may be realized by one of two methods. The first method uses building blocks to implement a Z-domain block diagram of h(Z). The second method uses a direct implementation and takes advantages of the large amount of information and structures used to the large amount of information and structures used in digital filters.
In this work we are using the first path to develop our designed switched capacitor filters. There are many building blocks in the thesis which can be used to realize any Z-domain transfer function. These blocks, whichare stated below have the advantage that they are stray insensitive.
