Abstract

LASIK is becoming increasingly popular for the correction of myopia. However post LASIK changes in central corneal thickness, keratometric reading and ’OP have been reported.
The aim of the work was to evaluate the change in intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement by Goldman applanation tonometer (GAT) after Laser in Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK).
The study included 40 eyes of 12 female patients and 8 male patients undergoing LASIK surgery, their ages between 18-35 years old. Cases were classified according to the spherical equivalent refractive error into two groups: (Group A) including 22 eyes ranging from (-1.0 to -6.0D) & (Group B) including 18 eyes ranging from (-6.5 to -12.5 D).
All patients were subjected to thorough preoperative and postoperative examination including history taking, refraction, slit-lamp biomicroscopy of anterior and posterior segments, measurement of the IOP by GAT ”preoperative and 1s` w1c,3“1 wk, 6th wk and 8’h wk postoperative”, corneal topography and central pachymetry.
For IOP measurement by GAT, high statistically significant difference was found in both groups included in the study for the mean change between preoperative and

.5 6- and 8th wks postoperative.
There was a definite postoperative reduction in the IOP measurements. On the other hand, there was postoperative stability of the (OP measurements during the follow up period in both groups.
For the central corneal thickness reading, high statistically significant difference was found in both groups included in the study for the mean change between preoperative and postoperative values.
A significant correlation had been found between the mean reduction of KW measurements by GAT and the mean reduction of central pachymetry readings.

Summary
For the keratometric reading, high statistically significant difference was found in both groups included in the study for the mean change between preoperative and postoperative values
No siignificant correlation has been found between the mean reduction of IOP measurements by GAT and the mean reduction of the corneal curvature (K reading).
A correction formula has been deduced from data collected in this study stated that for every 100um reduction in central corneal thickness there was reduction in IOP measurement by 2.3 mmHg
Alternative methods should be investigated to asses IOP independent of comes] thickness.
