Abstract This thesis investigates the performance of a 3-phase, fully-controlled rectifier bridge feeding a static active load or a DC-motor, when the AC supply feeding the bridge is nonideal. Closed-form analytical expressions for load current, supply current, load voltage and terminal voltage of the bridge are develope without approximation in the shape of the supply-current waveform or in the shape of the load-current waveform during the overlap periods. The analysis covers all normal modes for continuous and discontinuous modes of operation. The harmonic analysis of the supply current and terminal voltage of the bridge are developed. Also, the analysis includes ripple, distortion, displacement and power factors characteristics. In the thesis, the performance of the bridge with terminal capacitors is also investigated. The investigation includes effect of those terminal capacitors on the system performance, the value of the overlap angle and the supply power factor, when the loads are inductive, static active and dc motor. The behaviour of dual converter is analysed in full, when it feeds a dc motor, during the period of speed changing or speed reversal with nonideal supply. |
