Abstract
The present study was performed on thirty IPF patients, 22 of them females and 8 of them males with mean age 54 years old. All patients were recruited from the outpatient clinic of the Chest Department of EL-Minya University Hospital in the period from October 2010 to September 2011.
The pulmonary rehabilitation program, a general program, not one specifically for IPF.
Thirty IPF patients were subjected to the pulmonary rehabilitation therapy basically consist of upper and lower extremities exercises, breathing exercise, and chest physical therapy. Psychological support and patient education round out the program.
Pulmonary rehabilitation program was two months duration and the sessions were three sessions per week done in Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Department of EL-Minya University Hospital.
All patients were subjected to the following:
*At Baseline
I. Complete history taking.
2. Complete physical examination.
3. Chest x-ray postro-anterior and lateral views at baseline.
4. High resolution computerized tomography chest [HRCT Chest].
5. Complete blood picture.
6. ECG to exclude any cardiac affection.
7. Echocardiography to measure Pulmonary artery systolic pressure [P ASP].
8. Arterial blood gases [ABG].
9. Pulmonary function test using Spirometer.
