Abstract

Sandstone (sedimentary) and Marble (metarnorphic) two categories of rocks. were drilled by diamond core bit - A fixed laboratory - machine at A rotational speed 400 and 1200 RPM. and different range of weights on bit (WOB) 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 45, 60 ......, 225 kg is used. Physico - mechanical properties such as density compressive strength, tensile strength and coefficient of friction are determined for all tested rocks.
Operating parameters of the drill bit such as weights on bit (WOB), penetration rate (PR), lorque (T) and drilling specific energy (SE) were continuously monitored during the drilling lrials. The effects of the these parameters on the performance of the bit were examined. Relationships between weights on bit (WOB) and both penetration rate (PR). torque (T) and drilling specific energy (SE) were also discussed. As will as the relationship between penetration rate (PR) and specific energy (SE). Graphs are presented which can be used to predict the diamond-drilling performance easily and fasily.
