Abstract

Vascular anomalies are divided into tumors and malformations, a division that is
described as the binary or biological classification, which represents the cornerstone of
modern therapy. However, it still represents a blind spot in the world surgical practice,
the vascular anomalies field remaining unexplored for decades. This was the motive
behind making this review, which represents a spotlight on new trends in the treatment
of vascular anomalies.
Disciplinary rather than technical, this review has emphasized the importance of
multidisciplinary practice treating vascular anomalies, amid which diagnostic and
interventional radiology now play the key role, representing the least invasive option.
Besides, given the task of creating harmony from diversity, an updated review and
panoramic overview figure has been given to the design of this work, the details being
much beyond the scope of a work of this kind. In other words, we have tried to make an
introduction to vascular anomalies, outlining the basic biological behavior and the
essential therapeutic principles, which are the same in all organ systems, whatever the
clinical manifestations are. This is expected to be an invaluable update for the
nonprofessional and a helpful brainstorming for the beginning surgical or interventional
resident, who wishes to get inclined in the field of vascular anomalies.
A standard management and follow up protocol, based on review of practice of centers
of excellence in the field of vascular anomalies, makes the conclusion of our work
