Abstract

The present thesis includes preparation, characterization and structural change of two prepared systems. The first system concern: ”Influence of manganese chloride (MnCl2) on structural, optical, thermal and electrical properties of the PVA/PVP blend”, while the second devoted for: ”Role of graphene on the structural, optical, thermal and electrical studies on PVA/PVP blend ”.
Different techniques had been used to investigate both systems:
X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and Ultraviolet and visible (UV-Vis.) spectroscopy for structural properties. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) for thermal properties. DC electrical conductivity for electrical properties. and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for surface morphology detection.
XRD results demonstrated the presence of an amorphous feature. In FT-IR study, most characteristic bands of the used materials appeared. UV-Vis. analysis revealed that values of the optical energy gap are decreased with increasing the concentration of the filler. This means that there are charge transfer complexes arose between the polymeric material and metals-ions.
DSC thermographs of the material shows improve the thermal stability and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) shows improve the thermal stability. DC electrical conductivity study showed that the conductivity has been increased with increasing the filler content. SEM micrographs confirms the interaction and complexation between the polymeric material and filler. These results suggest that these two systems can be used in some applications like batteries and electrochemical devices, and some technical applications.
