Abstract In the last decade, the Internet has gained a great attention as a backbone for almost all commercial and personal communications based on the current networks’ infrastructures. Predicting the network behavior under the current situation of mixed traffic that comes from different applications seems very difficult and gets complicated day after day. Unfortunately, the rapid developments in communication technologies have reduced the capability to measure, analyze, and evaluate of the Internet traffic, applications and protocols. Passive traffic analysis is the methodology that provides a complete picture about the network traffic, and provides enough information to fully understand the behavior of the network components from different perspectives. The objective of the traffic analysis process is to characterize the network and user behavior from reliable traffic traces. Passive traffic analysis is based on collecting the network traffic into trace files. Following on, the traffic analysis process is conducted over these files. The key challenges of the passive traffic analysis methodology lie in the trace accuracy and reliability. In this thesis, a traffic collection and analysis system is presented for automatically and continuously collecting and an. |
