Abstract

The experimental investigation of flames with simple geometry is of a great importance for combustion engineering. It delivers basic technical data which helps in better understanding of the physics of the combustion process and helps also to develop reliable flame computational methods which is more close to realistic conditions.
In the present work, series of test were carried out on a specially designed gas burner, which gives vertical flat free diffusion flames. The burner consists mainly of three vertical ducts separated by thin septa. The gaseous fuel is fed as single of double jet from the outer ducts and the combustion air is fed from the middle duct.
Measurements of temperature and concentration in the resulting flames are carried out at different input mass ratio of air and fuel jets.
Finally, comparisons between thermal, chemical and direct photographing flame boundaries and flame length are studied for single and double fuel jets at different input mass ratio of air and fuel jets.
The results obtained show the extent to which the structure and dimensions of such flames are affected by the different operating parameters.
