Abstract

In this thesis, the steady-state performance of a wind turbine / self-excited induction generator (SEIG) / inductive load system, and the dynamic performance of a self-excited induction generator (SEIG), either at no load or at load, are investigated.Also, the transient performance of a matrix converter (MC) / inductive passive load system is investigated, and a steady-state equivalent circuit of this system is derived. This equivalent circuit is used to obtain the fundamental performance of the system.In addition to that, the transient performance of a MC / induction motor (active load) system is investigated, and a steady-state equivalent circuit is derived to obtain the fundamental performance of the system.In this thesis, also, the transient performance of a wind turbine / SEIG / MC / inductive passive load system is presented, and a steady-state equivalent circuit of this system is obtained. This equivalent circuit is used to obtain the fundamental performance of the system.The steady-state performance of a system composed of a wind turbine, a SEIG with its excitation capacitors, a MC with an input LC-filter and an induction motor, which is driving a mechanical load, is presented. This performance is obtained using a steady-state equivalent circuit of the system.The performance results of the investigated systems in this thesis are obtained using Matlab programming language and Matlab / Simulink software package.
