Abstract The diagnosis of the underlying cause and site of bleeding per rectum is often most challenging. Current methods of localization of the origin of bleeding are far from being satisfactory. The surgeon is often left in a dilemma as to which part of the colon he should tackle The recent use of selective mesenteric angiography during actual bleeding in cases of massive haemorrhage,has been revealing. The recent measures of treatment, e.g. tranacatheter embolization of the bowel also hopefully introduced to so— lye the problem of bleeding per rectum. Analysis of the different causes of bleeding per rectum as regards their incidence, methods of diagnosis and management. Special emphasis is laid on the difficulty in localising the source of bleeding and the different op— •inions to deal with the critically—ill patients in an acute episoed of bleeding. |
