Abstract

This thesis discusses and provides a definition of Satellites, their uses and importance to countries and how they changed peoples’ lives. It also focuses on Satellites role in achieving economic development mainly through in education as the main and most important challenge to societies in order to prosper and develop. It also provides a definition of a tourism satellite account and its importance. Assessment of tourism’s contribution to the economy of a country or a region is extremely complicated because of the nature of tourism. A tourism satellite account (TSA) is a major recent contribution in this area. It involves building a specific tourism account in the context of a national account. After more than 20 years of development, the current trend in TSA research is to refine and implement the method.
Because it is not a very highly discussed topic, a qualitative method is adopted by using the experiences and steps of different countries as a benchmark to how Egypt can follow those steps.
This thesis also provides Egypt’s history in embracing the media and all the steps it followed until it started Nile Sat and Satellite operations.
Finally I show a thorough financial analysis of Satellite operations in Egypt from 2000-2010 displaying all the obstacles and challenges facing the sector and providing recommendations to overcome them.
