Abstract Water is the vital fluid and is one of our most essential natural resources. The growing intensity in the utilization of water in Egypt leads to remanagement the different water resources, which may help to solve the water shortage problems in future. The Egyptian Government gives a high priority for development in the new settlements away from the high population in the Nile valley. Northwestern coastal zone could be considered as one of the most promising areas for these new settlements. In the northwestern coastal zone of Egypt, surface water is considered as the main water resource which contributes either directly (direct rainfall) or indirectly (surface runoff). Generally, surface runoff occurs in the form of flash floods through numerous wadis dissecting the tableland plateau to the south of the coastal plain. In Matruh area, the main source of water that feeds the groundwater aquifer is the infiltration from surface runoff. Also the rainfall in this area considered as the only local water resource for irrigation and domestic purposes. The strong floods cause a great damage to the main constructions, such as roads, railways, and buildings. etc. According to the aforementioned issues, it is worth to study flash floods, their rates, quantities, frequencies, and the flood control system optimization. Many techniques were developed to simulate the rainfall nmoff relation in order to estimate, predict and control flash floods to convert it from a terminating. |
