Abstract

In the present investigation, 46 cases of several human ocular infections in Sharkia district were clinically examined and ophthalmically diagnosed. The Ophthalmic assessment study showed that a total of 46 patients comprising 25 males (54.3 %) and 21 females (45.7 %) were included in this study. Age of patients ranged from 3- 84 years old (mean age 51 years). Twelve fungal species were isolated from the clinical infection cases. Aspergillus species and Humicola fuscoatra were categorized as predominant species. Fusarium oxysporum, Trichoderma sp. and Mucor mucedo were grouped as non–predominant species. Results of antifungal activity of some essential oils against the most common isolated ocular fungal species demonstrated that basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) essential oil showed the highest broad spectrum of activity. Aqueous garlic extract (AGE) seemed to present a great potential for antifungal activity against the tested ocular fungal species
