Abstract

The present thesis is devoted to study the structural, electrical transport and optical properties of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-methoxyphenyl)-21H,23H-porphine cobalt(II) (CoMTPP) in its bulk and thin film forms. Thin films were prepared by thermal evaporation technique at constant substrate temperature. It is also devoted to investigate I-V and C-V characteristics of CoMTPP films, as well as, photovoltaic properties of Au/p-CoMTPP/p Si/Al heterojunction diodes have been reported.
The structural properties of CoMTPP were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and Fourier transformation infrared (FTIR) techniques. These studies were carried out to identify the structural features and lattice constants.
The electrical transport properties including the dark electrical resistivity, the thermoelectric power, space charge limited current measurements and AC conductivity n its bulk and thin film forms have been investigated to determine some parameters.
The optical properties of the as-deposited, annealed and X-ray irradiated thin films of CoMTPP have been investigated. Absorption, transmission and reflection of films were studied by the spectrophotometer measurements at normal incidence of light to determine the dispersion and absorption spectral behaviour, as well as, the high frequency dielectric constant, the lattice dielectric constant and the optical energy gap.
The photovoltaic properties of the dark (I-V) and (C-V) of
Au/p-CoMTPP/p Si/Al heterojunction diodes were measured to determine some essential parameters of the diode such as built in voltage, the width of depletion region, the diode quality factor and the operating conduction mechanisms. At the same time; I-V characteristics under illumination of Au/p-CoMTPP/p-Si/Al heterojunction diode as a solar cell were studied in order to determine the solar cell parameters such as short circuit current, open circuit voltage, the fill factor and the power conversion efficiency. The obtained data from various measurements were analysed.
