Abstract Cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) isolated from bagasse, rice straw and palm rachis by hydrolysis using sulfuric acid 65% (wt/wt) with length 76-101 nm for bagasse, 75-104 nm for rice straw and 209-416 nm for palm rachis. Cellulose nanocrystals suspension used with polymers like alginate, chitosan, gelatin and PVA for synthesizing polymer/CNC nanocomposites by casting method at different concentrations of CNC [from 2.5-20% (wt/wt)]. Cellulose nanocrystals were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infra red (FTIR). Nanocompsites films were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis (DMTA), tensile strength and moisture sorption properties. Rheological properties of polymer/ CNC mixture were also studied. Biodegradation of the nanocomposites films in Tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane solution was studied. |
