Abstract Design of coordination compounds with desired biological properties represents the most important area of medicinal inorganic chemistry today. Schiff bases of azomethine nitrogen donor heterocyclic ligands are well known due to their wide range of application in pharmaceutical and industrial fields. Transition metal complexes of Schiff bases have attracted much attention due to their potent biological activities such as antifungal, antibacterial, anticancer and herbicidal applications. The complexation of metal to Schiff base ligand improves the antimicrobial and anticancer activities of the ligand. The present work was aimed mainly to study the synthesis, spectroscopic, characterizations of ciprofloxacin Schiff bases and their metal complexes by different tools of analysis like elemental analysis CHN, infrared, UV-Vis, 1H NMR, mass spectra, magnetic properties and molar conductivity measurements. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) give an idea about thermal stability of the prepared complexes. Also to study the biological activity of free Schiff bases and their metal complexes against four Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria and two fungi species. |
