Abstract Within an occupational context, the term burnout is used to describe an individual reaction to chronic stress at work. These reactions are characterized by emotional exhaustion, a distanced, indifferent, cynical attitude towards work and other people (depersonalization) and a decline in personal accomplishment. Burnout is also associated with an increased risk of absence from work, more work days lost due to illness, inability to work and low work satisfaction, and the individuals affected are very likely to give up work completely. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of burnout syndrome among resident and assistant lecturers in Mansoura University Hospitals, with exploration of the possible socio-demographic and occupational risk factors then to conduct interventional study by application of the quality improvement tools in one department of one chosen hospital and finally after the intervention, conduct re-evaluation of burnout level among resident and assistant lecturers after application of quality improvement tools. |
