Abstract The present work aims to study the removing of acid brown and violet reactive dyes by anodic oxidation (AO) and electrocoagulation (EC) in a batch stirred electrochemical cell. Graphite and iron rods were used as an anode in case of AO and EC respectively, while stainless steel screen was used as a cathode. The effect of operating parameters such as impeller rotational speed, current density, initial dye concentration, NaCI concentration and pH on the efficiency of colour removal has been examined. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) was also calculated. The results show that: 1. The %color removal increase by increa~ing current density and NaCI concentration. 2. The %color removal decrease by increasing impeller rotational speed and initial dye concentration. 3. In order to examine economical parameter, energy consumption and electrode consumption were studied. Treatment of industrial effluent from EL V ANS Textile Company (Bourge Al Arab, Alexandria) at optimum operating condition was studied and showed that the maximum %color removal and maximum reduction in COD values were obtained in case of EC rather than A O. |
