Abstract

IL-10 is known to play various roles in immune regulating and anti-inflammatory responses. Several polymorphic sites within the promoter region of the IL-10 gene have been described and have been shown to affect IL-10 production. A single nucleotide polymorphism at position -592 from the transcription initiation site, has been identified. A C to A base substitution has been identified at this SNP and has been linked to numerous diseases. Several studies have examined the association of IL-10 polymorphisms with allergic diseases in which the results were inconsistent.
