Abstract This study analyzes the interpretation process of the translator Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Ali Makki in the Arabic translation of Doña Bárbara by Romulo Gallegos and El canto de la gallina, by Ramón Solís. We trace in the translated text the hermeneutic interventions by examining the process of translating certain units, the techniques and the methods of the translator to resolve the problems in the translation of local cultural lexicons. Also we study the cultural intertextuality in translation through the analysis of the historical Venezuelan context of Doña Barbara and the historical Andalusian context of El canto de la gallina and the historical Egyptian context of the translator. The analysis of these translations offers an overview to assess the processes of interpretation of the text and its intercultural context to understand the process of domestication of these novels. |
