Abstract

Many individuals attempting to abstain from alcohol and drugs do not have access to appropriate housing that supports sustained recovery. Owners and operators of the residential facilities should pay attention to factors that predicted better alcohol and drug outcomes, including higher involvement in 12-step meetings, lower alcohol and drug use in the social network
Drug treatment comes in a variety of forms and settings. Residential rehab is a vital option for some people requiring treatment for drug dependence. Most people receiving treatment for drug addiction doesn’t have access to residential facilities either they do know it or they can’t afford its cost or being stigmatized towards it especially nowadays in Egypt.
Drug addiction treatment consists of many phases starting by detoxification period which preferably must be done under medical supervision for the fear of the withdrawal features which is variable according to different patients then the patient enters the rehabilitation program which mainly concerns about scheduling his/her daily activities and this period takes about 28 days usually and throughout this period the client is encouraged to attend the 12-steps meetings, in addition to the daily group and individual therapies. The final phase of the treatment process is entering the residential program which its role is highlighted throughout this paper concerning its effectiveness on the individual’s life as it’s a main step which helps in starting a new drug free life-style without dependence.
The relationship between length of stay and treatment outcomes must examine the individual treatment intensity and service components required. Length of stay seems to vary considerably based on the type of program, the program’s primary purpose, participant commitment to the full course of treatment. No definitive optimal length of stay was found but according to most of the papers which discusses this subject at least 3-6 months stay in the facility.
Residential Treatment facilities provide time-limited treatment in structured substance-free living environments. Individuals accessing these services are most likely to be those with more complex and/or chronic substance use whom they tried the hospital treatment alone I.e. the short-term treatment only which we call it here in Egypt ” they just entered for detox” then they left the hospital, those individuals are better to enter the residential facility for a long period as they may benefit from it. Treatment includes individual, group and family counseling therapy, as well as psychosocial education and life skills training. Staffs at residential programs generally have a higher level of training than staff at hospitals. In addition, there are staff onsite 24 hours a day. Some programs may also provide medical, nursing or psychiatric support.
