Abstract
The present work was performed to study the effect of Doxorubicin Hcl as (synthetic anticancer) and Propolis as (natural anticancer) and their combination in the treatment of mammary cancer induced by N-methyl-N-nitrosourea. Moreover studying the side effects of Doxorubicin Hcl alone and after combination with Propolis to overcome its side effect. This study was carried out on 125 female white rats (two months old and 100 gm body weight) which were divided into equal 5 groups. Starting of experiment by induction of carcinogen N- methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) as a single dose (50 mg/kg B.W) intraperitoneal into gps.(2-5) while rats kept as control in gp.(l). After incidence of mammary tumor in gps.(2-5) begin the treatment which continue for 69 days. Rats were given carcinogen only, Doxorubicin Hcl (10 mg/kg B.W, lIP) every 3 weeks, Propolis (50 mg/kg B.W,P/O) daily and combination of therapeutic dose form Doxorubicin Hcl and Propolis in gps.(2,3,4 and 5) ,respectively. Blood samples were collected from the retro-orbital venous plexus after one hundred and twenty days from carcinogen induction for separation of serum to measure tumor marker CA 15.3.Two blood samples were collected thirty and seventy days post-treatment from all groups. The 15t sample was five ml of blood without anticoagulant in a sterile test tube for separation of serum for biochemical tests . The 2nd sample was 1 ml of blood was taken in clean Wasserman tubes containing disodium salts of EDT A for hematological examination.
