Abstract In our study 75 patient with chronic HCV divided into three groups : Group 1 : include 25 patients they are assessed for serum leptin before interferon coarse and after 12 weeks. Group 2: include 25 patients they are assessed serum leptin after 24 weeks. Group 3 : include 25 patients they assessed serum leptin at the end of treatment 48 weeks. It was found that : there is a strong relation between increasing serum leptin and response of chronic HCV patient to combination therapy : Patient with early virological response have no significant changes in serum leptin before treatment and at 12th week. Patient with persistence viraemia have significant increase in serum leptin level before treatment and at 12th week. There is a strong relation between BMI and virological response to combination therapy as high BMI is a bad predictor for response . There is a strong relation between serum leptin and BMI as high serum leptin associated with low BMI . There is relation between serum leptin and grade of fibrosis in the studied patients, high serum leptin associated with advanced fibrosis. |
