Abstract The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the use of underutilized feed resources (orange waste, pea-pods, rice straw and poultry manure) prepared in many different silage mixtures with urea or sodium hydroxide for feeding ruminants. The quality of the prepared silages was tested during the ensilage peroid (70 days), through determination of silage pH, lactic, acetic and butyric acids concentrations. To evaluate the nutritional value of the produced silage a series of digestibility trials were conducted with goats. Rumen fermentation pattern, including pH, total VFA and NH3-N concentrations of the goat fed the experimental silages were also taken into consideration. Additional objective of this work was to estimate the nutritional value of sun-dried orange waste and pea-pods. A. silage mixtures were prepared as follows. |
