Abstract
This study was carried out at Assiut Province on skin
Diseases in camels with special reference to mycologicaj.
Causes.
1- 150 camels were examinedclinically for skin
Lesions, 100 of them have clinicaj. Picture of skin diseases.
Hair and scaj.es samples were,taken from affected camels.
~ticroscopicalexamination revealed that 34 samples were
Positi va for mangewhile 16 sqmpleswere posi ti ve for
Dermatomycosis. In all cases of mange, the only causative
Agent was Sarcoptic Scabiei Var-cameli.
2- Fromcultural examination of affected samples on
Sabouraud’s dextrose agar, it was found that 24 samples
Were positive for derjllatomycosis25 strains of dermatophytes
Were isolated and -11 identified as 12 stra:f.ns (48%)
1.verrucosum, 6 str.. (24%)1. -nherophu!8, 4 strains
(16%) M. Canis and 3 drains (12%)!!.g,yp88um.

Isolated for the ~*ime from camels in Upper egjpt.

4- 50 soil samples were collected :from the same places
In which the camela live, 14 strains vvere isolated and vvell.
Identified as 9 strains of !.terrestre and 5 strains
M.g.ypseum.
5- Susceptability of isolated dermatophytes :from
Affected camels to infect different types of hair (cattle,
Buffalo, horse, dog and human hair) reveaj.ed that,,!.
Gypseum was able to infect all types of hair by using
”Hair’” bait Techni quen.
6-Sensitivity test of two antifungal drugs(griseofulvin
And nystatin) was done. It was found that isolated dermatophytes
Were sensitive to griseofulvin and completely
Resistant to nystatin in concentrations 20,40,80,160
Uni tj 1 ml of media.
7- Histopatho10Cical examination of )0 skin biopsy
Samples :from affectea camels revealed different histopathologicaj.

Hair follicles.
8- Treatment of 8 affected camels (one camel with
Ringworm and 7 C~:l!8 affected with mange) by using gr1seoful
Vin in treatment of ringworm, diaz1non and asuntol in
Treatment of mange. Gr:iseo:fulvin 10 mg/1 kg body daily for 15 days was e ffe cti ve, In case of mange J applica
Tions with one week interval using diazinon or asuntol
Were sufficient to cure mange.
