Abstract

This work was conducted on the microscopic examination of
female bulThlo embryos and fetuses, regarding the development of uterine tubes. In 37 day old embryos, the paramesonephric (Mullerian) ducts, which arc the primordia of the female genital ducts, extend craiio-caudally on the ventro-lateral sides of the mesonephroi, and also lateral to the mesonephric (Wolffian) ducts. They had a wide lumen and lined by simple cuboidal epithelium. As development advanced, the mesonephroi undergo gradual regression and the prospective oviduct remained within a mesenchymal fold forming the rnesosalpinx at the end of the 3~d month. Coiling of the duct and differentiation of the surrounding mesenchyme started on the 3rd month. Within the last half of the 3rd month, the ostium tubae and the most cranial part of the duct were lined by pseudostratified columnar epithelium rest on a thin basal lamina. Through the 4th month, ciliogenesis started on the day 98th in the cranial part of the duct. Light round cells appeared on the day I O3th. Through the 5th month, folding of the oviductal mucosa and its segmentation into fimbrine, infundibuLum, ampulla, isthmus and uterotubal
junction were clear. By the day 134th and on, peg cells appeared within the preampullaiy epithelium, the muscular coat continued formation and differentiation front the surrounding mesenchyrne, being thin in the preampulla and ampulla and thick in the isthmus. The 6th and 7th months showed different alternating phases of intermittent renewal activity leading to regeneration of the lining
epithelium of the preampulla and first part of ampulla.
During 9th and 10th months, the oviductal developmental changes were stable to great extent, with special reference to the increased secretory activity of PAS and alcian blue.
