Abstract The use of virtual patients in medical education is increasing rapidly. The integration of the e-learning modules is essential for their success. In this thesis, the modeling of virtual patient in medical e-learning is presented. The goal of this research is to allow medicine students to practice problem-based learning by simulating a medical consultation, using the current pedagogical methods based on clinical cases and integrating web technology methods. The environment is composed of a set of cooperative platform independent tools that allows students to simulate a consultation at distance on a virtual patient that can be designed easily by the teacher. Using multimedia data exchange, the simulation is more realistic than a face-to-face simulation. Information can be shared between students and teacher in multimedia various forms like text, audio, video, and whiteboard. This project is applied at the faculty of medicine in MansouraUniversity. The system is logically designed to simulate case-based learning methodology, and technically designed upon MedBiquitous specifications for virtual patient.Quality Assurance measures have been applied to Mansoura University Virtual Environment System (MUVES); it has been assessed using some different testing types. In addition, a collection of virtual patients of MUVES were introduced and introduction sessions were organized, and then divided students into small groups. Two studies are done using questionnaires and log file analysis, both studies measures student’s satisfaction, learning outcome, design of virtual patients and the perception of different integration scenarios. Results prove that the proposed learning systems is efficient in achieving its goals. |
