Abstract One hundred and eighty five broiler chicks collected from poultry farms of 125 (67.56%) were naturally affected with perosis, while 60 birds (32.44%) were normal. Serum of both affected and normal birds was analyzed also analysis of rations was tried. (1) Serum calcium concentration of affected chicks at 2 weeks of age was significantly higher than the apparently healthy chicks (P>0.05), while the serum calcium concentration at all ages was decreased and ranged (6.19—9.66 mg%) but in apparently healthy chicks the serum calcium concentration was (10.90 - 11.75%). (2) phosphorus concentration in serum of affected chicks was significantly decreased at 3 and 4 weeks of age (P>o.O1), while the decrease was not significant at 2 and 5 weeks of age but at 6 weeks of age there was a significant increase in phosphorus concentration of affected chicks (2>0.05). The serum phosphorus concentration in affected chicks ranged (4.83 - 6.91 mg%) ,while in apparently healthy chicks ranged (5.48 - 7.03 mg%). (3) serum manganese concentration in affected chicks ranged (1.59 — 2.43 ug/dl), while in non affected chicks ranged (10.89 — 12.18 ug/dl). Serum manganese concentration in all affected chicks (2-6 weeks) was highly significantly decreased (P>0.01). (4)- total serum protein was highly significantly decreased at (P>O.01) at 2,4 and 6 weeks of age, while the decrease was significant at 3 and S weeks of age. The serum total protein concentration in affected chicks with perosis ranged (2.91-4.24 g%), while in apparently healthy chicks was (4.89-5.14 g%). (5)- The decrease in GPT, GOT, zinc and copper levels in serum of affected chicks was not significant in all affected chicks. (6) In commercial rations used in broiler farms at 2weeks of age there was a wide Ca:P ratio (3.06:1), the content of phosphorus was (0.87-0.67%) which higher than the content of calcium (0.60-0.56%). (7) Experimentally birds fed ration (C) [yellow corn] developed perosis and the ratio was 40%. Serum analysis of birds fed ration (C) denoted that a highly significant decrease in serum calcium concentration (P>0.Ol) [7.20 mg%] while in birds fed ration (A and B) the concentration was [13.89—11.02 mg%] respectively. (8) Phosphorus concentration in serum was significantly decreased (P>0.05) [1.15 mg%] while in birds fed ration (A and B) the concentration was [2.08—1.30 mg%] respectively. (9) Serum manganese concentration in group (C) was highly significantly decreased (P>0.01)[1.2l ug/di] while in group (A and B) the concentration was [11.28-5.64 ug/di] respectively. (10) The decrease in serum total protein, zinc and copper in group fed ration [C) was highly significant at (P>0.O1) and the serum levels were (2.64 g%),(23.75 ppm) and (7 ppm) respectively .while the decrease in serum GPT activity was signifcant at (P>0.01) (25.38 u/l) and GOT was significant at (P>0.05) (135.53 u/i) (11)- Analysis of ration A,B and C resulted in a decrease in protein and mineral contents in ration (C) which developed perosis by 40% than rations A and B, the protein content was [9.19%), calcium [0.08), phosphorus [0.21%], manganese [10 ppm) zinc [11 ppm) and copper was [3.6 ppm] while in ration A and B the protein was [19.25%] and [14.44%], calcium [0.83%) and [0.57%], phosphorus [0.55%) and [0.40%] manganese ~ioo ppm) [60 ppm], zinc [50 ppm]and [30 ppm] and copper was [13 ppm] and [6.8 ppm] j respectively. |
