Abstract This study was carried out in El-Minia University hospital in the period from January to September 2011 on forty five adult females ASA I and II undergo elective surgery using general anesthesia Preoperative anxiety was assessed with the Spielberger’s state- trait anxiety inventory (STAI). The test inventory included 2 forms The First form was (State Form) which related to the immediate situation, the state anxiety. The second form was the (Trait Form) which measured the background anger. The patient was asked to complete the 2 STAI form (state & trait) on the night before surgery during the last preoperative visit. The patient was asked to complete the state but not the trait form once more in the operative field just before the induction of anesthesia. Once the patient had completed the STAI- state just before the surgery, we measured the blood pressure noninvasively for three consecutive times each was five minutes apart from the other. We had recorded the average of the three reading as the basal blood pressure. Mean while three lead electrocardiogram was monitored and heart rate recorded every minute during blood pressure measurement with the average heart rate was analyzed as the basal heart rate. In addition we recorded the basal temperature. |
