Summary of the study
Research Problem
The main problem of the research is ”the lower levels of the Librarians’ professionals working for the University Libraries’ skills which are necessary for dealing with the Electronic Information Resources (E-Resources)”
Research Questions:
1- What are the most Important professional requirements of the Librarians’ professionals who deal with the Electronic Information Resources?
2- What are the most important training requirements of the Librarians’ professionals who deal with the Electronic Information Resources in light of their professional needs?
3- What are the most important skills necessary for the Librarians’ professionals who deal with the Electronic Information Resources in light of their professional needs?
4- What is the suggested framework for training program for the development of the skills of Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries who deal with the Electronic Information Resources in light of their professional needs?
5- What is the effective extent of the suggested framework for training program for the development of the skills of Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries who deal with the Electronic Information Resources in light of their professional needs?
Objectives of the Research
The research aims at:
1- Defining the list of the professional requirements needed by the Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries when dealing with the Electronic Information Resources.
2- Defining the list of the most important professional requirements needed by the Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries when dealing with the Electronic Information Resources.
3- Developing the knowledge and performance areas necessary for dealing with the Electronic Information Resources for the Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries.
4- Defining the effectiveness of applying the training program in developing the skills of Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries who deal with the Electronic Information Resources
Importance of the Research
The research is important as:
1- It depends on the formulated list of the professional requirements needed by the Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries when dealing with the Electronic Information Resources.
2- It prepares a list of the skills of dealing with the Electronic Information Resources to define the knowledge and performance areas necessary for Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries, as well as it works to include these areas in pre-service and in-service preparation programs.
3- It makes use of the measurement tools (knowledge test and the observation card) resulted by the current research for the assessment of the performance level of Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries in dealing with the Electronic Information Resources.
4- Presenting a framework for a training program that could be followed when designing and producing similar programs for the development of the scientific skills in other professional and scientific areas.
Research Hypotheses:
The research would like to investigate the following hypotheses:
1- The suggested program contributes to the development of knowledge areas of the skills of Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries when dealing with the Electronic information Resources at the significance ratio
2- The suggested program contributes to the development of performance areas of the skills of Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries when dealing with the Electronic information Resources at the significance ratio .
Limits of the Research:
The research is confined in the following limit:
• Training a group of Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries working in Libraries of Benha University.
Research Tools :
1- the formulated list of the professional requirements needed by the Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries when dealing with the Electronic Information Resources (Prepared by the Researcher)
2- A list of the training needs necessary when dealing with the Electronic Information Resources necessary for Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries in light of their professional needs (Prepared by the researcher)
3- A list of the most important skills of dealing with the Electronic Information Resources (Prepared by the researcher).
4- A knowledge test for the skills of dealing with the Electronic Information Resources necessary for Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries (Prepared by the researcher).
5- An observation card for the skills of dealing with the Electronic Information Resources (Prepared by the researcher).
Subjects of Research
The subjects of the Research were (30) Librarians’ professionals working in Benha University Libraries, who were chosen (intentionally) among those who were subjected to the list of training needs.
Procedures of Research:
For the purpose of answering the Questions of the Research, the Researcher followed the following procedures:
1- Conducting an analytical study for the references and the related studies in order to prepare the theoretical framework of the research, the suggested training program, design the research tools, form the hypotheses as well as analyze its results.
2- Preparing a list of the professional requirements for the Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries when dealing with the Electronic information Resources.
3- Building a list of the training needs including the professional requirements of the above step, then giving it to the Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries to define their training needs.
4- Preparing a list of the skills of dealing with the Electronic Information Resources, then giving them to experts in Educational Technology, Curricula and Methodologies of teaching as well as the Libraries and information for validating assessment.
5- Preparing the final list of the skills of dealing after performing the additions and changes pursuant to the opinions of the expert arbitrators.
6- Building the suggested training programs for developing the skills of dealing with the Electronic information Resources for the Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries.
7- Controlling the suggested training program to experts in Educational Technology, Curricula and Methodologies of teaching as well as the Libraries and information for validity assessment.
8- Preparing the final form of the training program after performing the additions and changes pursuant to the opinions of the expert arbitrators.
9- Preparing the research tools (Knowledge Test and the Observation Card) and giving them to experts in Educational Technology, Curricula and Methodologies of teaching as well as the Libraries and information for trust-ability.
10- Preparing the final form of the research tools (Knowledge Test and the Observation Card) after performing the additions and changes pursuant to the opinions of the expert arbitrators
11- Choosing the subjects of the pilot study, as well as the experimental group from the Librarians’ professionals working in Benha University Libraries
12- Conducting the pilot study of the suggested training program as well as the measurement tools for trying out the program in field for the purpose of validating it. Making sure of the research tools reliability as well as defining the most important challenges and difficulties faced by the researcher and the experimental group sample when conducting the basic experiment of the study.
13- Conducting the basic experiment of the research through:
 Pre- Applying the test as well as observation card on the experimental group.
 Applying the suggested training program in the experimental group.
 Post- Applying the test as well as the observation cards on the experimental group.
14- Conducting the statistical treatment of the results of the research.
15- Concluding, interpreting and discussing the results in light of the theoretical framework and the relative studies.
16- Providing the recommendations and suggestions out of the results of the research.
Results
1- The suggested program contributes to the development of knowledge areas of the skills of Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries when dealing with the Electronic information Resources at the significance ratio
2- The suggested program contributes to the development of performance areas of the skills of Librarians’ professionals in university Libraries when dealing with the Electronic information Resources at the significance ratio .
