Abstract

The present investigation was planned to study the effect
of some disturbance (F.M.D. and fascioliasis) on the viability of
the foetus in buffaloes during it’s intrauterin life.
The materials were collected from pregnant animals sloughtered
at Cairo abattoar These animals were classifed into three
~jrOUPSaccording to the clinical symptoms.
1- First group: (Control group):
30 pregnant, clinically normal buffaloes at different
stages of pregnancy ranging from 105 to 250 days.
2- Second group:
11 mature pregnant buffaloes at different stages of pregnancy
rang ing from 110-235 days. Diagnosed clinically as infected
with F.M.D.
3-- lrd group:
13 pregnant buffaloes at different stages of pregnany
ranging from 115 to 230 days. These animals were infested with
chronic fascioliasis as investigated by P.M. examination.
The samples ~ .col Iec tsd from both the da. and foetus to
determine the folliParameters:
a- Some blood cellular elements; RBCs, count, P.C.Y. Hb content, total and differential leucocytic count.
b- Serum constituents; Ca., P., Mg and iron.
e Serum urea level as kidney function test.
j- sGOT and sGPT indicating the liver function.
2- Samples from the corresponding foetal fluids (allantoic and amniotic fluid) were collected to determine the same above elements in b , c. & d; (Ca., P., Mg., Fe., Urea, Go”I: and Gp\. The results revealed:
No significant changes in the RBCs, P.C.Y. and Hb, in
both the dam and foetus in case of F.M.D., while a significant decrease was detected in case of fascioliasis than that of
normal in both the dam and foetus.
The leucocytic picture revealed, a nonsignificant increase in the total WBC with significant increase in the lymphocytes in both dam and foetus in case of F .M.D while in case of fascioliasis a significar,t increase in the total WBCs count
and eosinophiles.with a significant decrease in the lymphocytes than that of normal ceses was detected in both dam and foetus.
The correlation in t1e RBCs, P.C.V., Hb, total wacs and diferential leytic count between the blood of the dam and that of the foetus, where a nonsignificant correlation at the normal condition was observed. In cas of F.M.D. a significant correlation were found between the lymphocytes count as well as the neutrophelic count in the blood of dam and that of the foetus. Moreover, in case of fascioliasis a significant correlations were
detected in the RBCs, P. C. V., Hb, lymphocytes and eos i noph i les
between the blood of dam and that of the foetus.
The ca Ic i um level in the serum of the dam and foetus as
we l I as in the foetal fluid (allantoic and amniotic) revealed a
significant (Jecrease in cases of F.M.D. as well as in case of
fascioliasis than that of thE normal.
The phosphorus levels in the serum of the dam, foetus and
i 1 the foetal fluids revealed a nonsignificant decrease in case
0” F.M.D. whi Ie a significant decrease in case of fasciol iasis
Ulan that of the norma I cases.
The magnesium levels In the serum of the dam foetus and in
the foetal fluid revealed a Cion significant increase in case of
F.M.D. as well as faSCioliasi, than that of the normal cases.
The iron levels in the serum of the dam. foetus and in the
f oeta I fluids revealed a ncnsignificant decrease in case of
F.11.0 .• whi Ie a significant de:rease in case of fascioliasis than
that of the normal c:ases. The urea levels in the serum of the dam,. foetus and in the
foetal fluid revealed a nonsignificant decrease in case of F.M.D.
and a significant decrease in case of fascioliasis than that of
’:he normaI cases.
The GOTand GPT activities in the serum of the dam, foetus
and in the foetal fluids revealed a significant increase in case
of F.M.D. as well as in case of fascioliasis than that of the
normaI cases.
A significant correlation was detected between the calcium,
phosphorus , magnesium , iron, urea and GPT in the serum of the
dam and that of the foetus, as well as a nonsignificant .-:GOT
correlation was also detectec at the normal condition.
In case of F.M.D. A significant Ca. Mg. Fe, urea, GOTand
G’T correlation and a non significant P. correlation was detected.
In case of fascioliasis a significant Ca.P. Mg, Fe, Urea,
GOTand GPTcorrelations were detected.
from these results, it could be concluded that the F.M.D.
and fascioliasis affect the viability of the foetus as indicated
by the changes in~e foetal blood picture. serum and foetal
fluids Ca., P., Mg., Fe, urea as kidney function test. GOTand
GPTas liver functiOft test.
