Abstract The use of antibiotics as growth promoters in animal nutrition is facing reduced social acceptance due to the appearance of residues and resistant strains of bacteria; antibiotic use has been banned in the European Union since January 2006. Bans on the use of antibiotics as feed additives have accelerated and led to investigations of alternative feed additives in animal production i.e. other, natural substances, which would have positive effect on chicken growth and feed conversion. Today, several groups of these additives are in use, and most often probiotics, prebiotics, enzymes, acidifiers, antioxidants and phytogene additives. The present study was conducted in two experiments. Experiment I: was conducted to study the effect of dietary supplementation of 2 commercial products of probiotics (Biogreen-E and CloSTAT) and two types of phytobiotic (1% dried rosemary and 1% dried peppermint) as alternative growth promoters to antibiotic (Oxytetracyclin). Experiment II: was conducted to study the effect of substitution of inorganic chelates of zinc and manganese (oxide and sulphate respectively) with their organic sources (zinc and manganese glycine). Both experiments were conducted to study their effects on: (1) Growth performance of broiler chickens (body weight, body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, RGR and PER). (2) Carcass quality traits. (3) Some serum biochemical parameters as cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL, LDL, glucose, total protein, albumin and globulin. (4) Economic importance. (5) |
